Volkswagen’s newest edition to the Amarok range has been created to celebrate the company’s Guinness World Record-breaking feat in its dual-cab ute.

The Volkswagen Amarok 10 Deserts Edition is set launch locally in the second quarter of 2025.

Although pricing hasn’t been confirmed yet, Volkswagen Australia has estimated it’ll be priced between the Amarok Life TDI500 and Style TDI500. These are currently priced at $59,490 and $69,740 before on-road costs, respectively.

Unlike the actual vehicle that achieved the Guinness World Record, which was powered the TDI600 V6 turbo-diesel, the Amarok 10 Deserts Edition will be powered by the TDI500 bi-turbo four-cylinder diesel engine.

This bi-turbo diesel is down on power and torque compared to the V6 turbo-diesel, but it’s incrementally lighter.

Based on the Amarok TDI500 Life, the 10 Deserts Edition receives a 40mm suspension lift kit that helps to increase ground clearance to 275mm. There’s also underbody protection.

Other unique standard equipment includes 17-inch black alloy wheels that are wrapped in “off-road focused” tyres, plus a black tonneau cover, and ’10 Deserts’ badging. The ute will only be available with white exterior paint.

As previously reported, German endurance driver and multiple record holder Rainer Zietlow, along with his co-driver Marius Biela and Australia’s Brad Bowman, used a modified Amarok V6 Style to set a new record time for crossing Australia’s 10 deserts – six days and 17 hours.

Starting in Maree, South Australia, the record attempt saw the three-man crew travel across the Great Victoria, Great Sandy, Tanami, Simpson, Gibson, Little Sandy, Strzelecki, Sturt Stony, Tirari and Pedirka deserts, arriving in Alice Springs 6421km later.

The Amarok used 1199 litres of diesel in the process – averaging 18.7L/100km – and suffered only a single tyre puncture.

Volkswagen has now picked up two Guinness World Records in Australia this year, after a standard ID.4 GTX electric SUV established the record for the largest GPS drawing made by an electric vehicle (EV), inscribing ’70 Year VeeDub’ across 23,849km.
